How Does a Microfilm Conversion Project Work

How Does a Microfilm Conversion Project Work

At SideKick, we are able to deliver exceptional quality and quick turnaround microfilm conversion services, regardless of whether you need to convert a few hundred or thousands of documents. We employ every means to ensure a high level of quality and consistency, keeping variations to a minimum as we conform to a strict set of best practices for handling documents and converting to microfilm.

Whether you have microfiche, microfilm, or aperture cards stored in another location offsite, any of these compose a difficulty in terms of accessing and retrieving the important data they contain. However, with an effective document management solution, you can capture these documents easily and take advantage of the tools necessary to retrieve and manage the information they hold.

Microfiche Conversion to Digital

At SideKick, we have the capability to convert your aperture cards, microfilm, and microfiche to digital image documents that can be stored in a safe and dependable manner. We can also catalog your documents, allowing you to capture them in short order through a reliable browser-based search engine. This process bypasses the need for old microfilm viewers and printers. The digital conversion of your microfiche enables you to manage your documents in an easier manner than when they were on film. From a web browser, you can achieve a microfiche to digital conversion enabling you to retrieve the necessary information you need in a short period of time.

A microfilm conversion project can be carried out in the following manner:

Transport of Your Microfilm

The first step is transporting your microfilm to a conversion facility. In some cases, onsite options may be available.

Tracking Inventory

After the microfilm arrives at the facility for conversion, the container is tagged for tracking. Once the project starts, the microfilm is tracked for unit control.

Microfilm Analysis

Before the scanning process begins, the microfilm is analyzed for density. If needed, it can be cleaned and repaired in order to ensure an optimized scanning process.

Proof of Concept Stage

At the proof of concept stage, a small segment of the entire project is completed and placed under review by you for approval or to implement any necessary changes.

Complete Scanning

After the proof of concept is approved, a variety of digital image formats can be created through the use of state-of-the-art scanners which convert the microfilm.

Delivery of Your Digital Records

Lastly, the digital records are sent to you through standard means – for instance USB, DVD, SFTP – or they may be hosted at a secure data facility and obtained through a web-based tool.
